What is “Brick Layering”?

As professionals, we often share tips with other stylists on how to get the best results. One of our key techniques is the parting pattern.

Instead of parting hair in a simple, stacked grid (where each box is directly on top of the next), we use a “brick layer” pattern.

Just like on a brick wall, each braid is intentionally placed in the middle of the two braids below it. The “box” for each braid “falls between the two braids at the bottom”. This staggered pattern is a simple concept, but it makes a massive difference in the final look.

1. It Creates Maximum Fullness: This is the most important benefit. Because knotless braids don’t have that bulky knot at the root, the parting is key to the style’s volume.
